What They're Saying
At first in the language of an imaginary mother, gradually into inflammation,
With the joy of overcoming obstacles
First of all, try tracing God's revealed word again and reduce it to language!
When I read the New Testament, I often refer to the English Bible when there is a part that is clearly expressed in the Korean Bible or when I do not understand it. Even though it is the same Bible, when I look at translated passages with slightly different word choices, I get the feeling that even though I am not a native speaker, some words have different nuances and meanings.
specifically, there used to be times when I wondered what words were used in the original language. I also wondered why the New Testament was written in Greek. What kind of language is this... At first, like Hebrew, it was imaged as a mysterious language, and Greek was the language of Alexander the Great, which I had briefly heard of in my high school world history class.
As a language of powerful empires in history, such as the Greek Empire and Hellenism, and as a language that blossomed Hellenistic culture, there were many questions about why Greek, which had a strong impact along with Roman Latin, became the language of the New Testament record. , Paul Theological Seminary said that there was an opportunity to learn it without any registration fee, so I enrolled in Professor Kim Dong-soo's beginner Greek course, and with God's guidance, I was able to continue studying the beginner's and intermediate courses. The Greek language, which seemed mysterious and attractive, came to me with fear as each word had masculine, feminine, and neuter genders almost regardless of parts of speech, and the ever-changing tenses of verbs, present participles, and gerunds, and gender numerals. As Professor Kim Dong-soo said, if you empty your mind and study Greek, you will be able to escape from dementia, and your fellow students are also inspired by the passion for study that is waning in age. Let me know the will of the Lord clearly. As I prayed and moved forward, it has already been two years since I studied Greek.
It is a difficult language, but like the Bereans, we live in an era in which the establishment of a correct view of faith and theology is required more than ever in contemplating and studying the Word of God more deeply. Through the language used in the situation at the time and the human reporters inspired by the Holy Spirit who recorded it, what message was intended to be conveyed to the readers at the time was properly applied with a closer understanding of the heart and will of God, the original author. It brings great benefit and joy to practice in life. How beautiful it is to see adults and veterans studying a path that they would not dare to go as a layman, with a passion for learning that even young people would envy, and with faith! While looking at various seminaries for a long time, I met Paul's Theological Seminary, which was God's perfect plan and guidance. Just like my grandfather who spent his whole life serving as a Sunday school teacher and ended his picnic on this land, a vessel prepared for God to use and a person who wanted to please him, I wanted to learn from passionate professors a deeper learning than a degree. I was eagerly looking for it to be possible. This school is a precious place of learning that God has opened to me who has been living my life as a teacher for 17 years.
Having attended various conferences held in New York City or across the country, and receiving education as a teacher, the curriculum and faculty at Paul's Theological Seminary were so precious that they were truly shocking. When I saw the résumés of solid professors in a financial situation where the school's operation is solely driven by donations, I bowed my head to the realization that this is a place where devoted seniors of faith are cultivating the next disciples to serve their country. The two or three special lectures (really special lectures) every semester, including the Greek Bible reading shared by a small community every week, were enough to make my head colder and my heart warmer. Even though I am a new theology student who has just completed one semester, I take the next step forward with excitement as I look at the vision that God speaks and gives during this learning process. While passing through the process of precious learning, I earnestly hope that my steps will lead to a narrow gate, only to the top of a solid rock, and to a low seat.

‘Try not to learn the words of God with your brain, but eat it as daily bread. Eat it and digest it so nutrition can make you grow and strengthen, grow up…until you reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ’ 에베소서 4:13
The voice of the Holy Spirit came from my heart. The solid relationship with the Lord as a motae believer suddenly turned hot like jumping into fire after corona. The busier my life became, the more I read the Word, the more my hunger and thirst for spiritual food grew, and I couldn't even sleep at night. Not everyone does theology just because they have a strong thirst for the Word, but for some reason, I searched for seminaries whenever I had time, and my heart grew cold toward American seminaries that demand expensive registration fees.
While praying with undiminished passion and love for him, the Lord unexpectedly reminded me of Pastor Cho Moon-hwi of Onnuri Officers' Church in Orangeburg, New York, where I had served 20 years ago. there has been I raised my hand in praise of joy at the guidance of the Lord who planned and acted ahead of me by entering a school with the unimaginable condition of a full scholarship to an online program school operated with the dedication and mission of the great president and professors. . Pastor Moon Moon-eon and his wife had been praying for an evangelist at the New York Cross Church, which I serve, and I found out later that the Lord was speeding up all my steps for the ministry of the Cross Church.
I was appointed as an educational evangelist on Easter, April 17, 2022, and started the Youth Ministry ministry from May 1. 'If someone asks you why you are doing this, say that the Lord will use it, and I will send you here immediately.' , That's right' He made me obey. The form of the Word given in every class at Paul Theological Seminary is like a high-end special meal to me. Special lectures are given each time, and even special desserts are provided. As if the fact that the Lord saved me freely at the price of his precious life makes no sense. “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters, and you who have no money, come, buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price…” Then you will eat what is good, and your heart will delight in fat things... ’ (Isaiah 55:1-2) All praise, glory and thanks be to our Lord forever, Amen!

It was quite an accident at the time that I started studying Greek. Sometimes pastors' sermons or Christian books use Greek Explaining and interpreting based on the original language was all I had to do with Greek. Therefore, Greek It was to learn indirectly what pastors and scholars studied and researched. Greek especially for the life of faith I never thought of learning An elder I knew encouraged me to learn before I got older, so I first visited the class in the fall of 2019. At that time, the instructor pastor I almost saw you for the first time. I went in and listened to it a few times and tried to quit. Greek lectures include Elementary Greek I, Elementary Greek II, Intermediate Greek, Finally, there are 4 stages of reading the Greek synoptic gospels, but I started with elementary Greek II without listening to elementary Greek I. So, I tried to quit after listening to it for the first few hours. From Alpha to Omega, I went in without even knowing the alphabet, so from the first hour My head started to hurt. One comforting thing is that the people who listened to the lecture seemed to have headaches together. Because the students devotedly helped me by the side, it became an awkward state to just quit. FYI I'm new I like to learn languages. As the hours passed, the instructor pastor and classmates were very considerate of beginners. As he guided me, my interest gradually arose, and I hoped, 'I can read and interpret the Bible in Greek.' Initially I think it started out of intellectual curiosity. I usually refer to the NIV English Bible a lot when I do not understand the meaning well because of the revision and revision while reading the Bible. As I learned little by little, I felt like a new door was opening. Because Greek has more tenses, singular/plural, masculine/feminine than English. Instead of having a complex grammatical system, such as, it was discovered that it is a language that can convey meaning much more clearly than English. if If you have the ability to interpret Greek even a little, you can read the New Testament, which was originally written in Greek, more vividly and understand it in your own way. Interpretation of the meaning can be a way to better understand the meaning God originally intended I He is neither a theologian nor a church leader. However, the Bible is the most authoritative book in the Christian faith that contains the Word of God. I thought that if I could digest this book well with the help of the Holy Spirit, it would be of great help in developing more true faith. Countless There are Christian essays and testimonies and books, but there is no greater benefit than a more vivid encounter with the very voice of God. same. I am still not good at Greek. It's harder because I didn't take the beginner level. And, Greek is a very difficult language. School Days I spoke German, but it seems to be twice as difficult as that. By the way, the word 'habit' also comes to life. learning for a long time, As I did my homework and read, I came up with familiar words, and naturally the Greek New Testament came very close. now in Korean While reading, I often open the Interlinear Bible. If you look at the Word like that, the grace and lessons you receive are multiplied. Besides, these days Since there are many mobile Bibles translated by contrasting Greek-English, after studying the basic grammar and words of Greek, Even if you can't write, you can easily read and interpret. Greek was the universal language of the first century, and it seems that God prepared the time to send Jesus accordingly. therefore, Could it be that he wanted the Bible to be written in a language that would accurately convey its meaning even 2000 years later? 1st century early Christians There is the joy of reading the Bible together in the same language you heard and read, there is a sense of fellowship, and you feel a sense of cultural kinship while experiencing the Holy Spirit. It is a great blessing to be touched in the same way. Of course, not everyone will need to study Greek, but after the Reformation many Today, by following the tradition of the saints studying Greek while seeking the true meaning of the Bible, they can experience God's love more vividly. I would like to recommend it to many students in that it is a language where you can feel the breath. If you learn at least basic Greek I and II, you will find new joy. I'm sure the door will open. In addition, the instructor who teaches Greek is a famous New Testament scholar in the academic world. Wouldn't listening to a direct lecture from someone be a grace bestowed by God?
